Richmond Police is looking for Willie Clayborne Coley Jr., 34, of the 8800 block Midway Road. Coley has been identified as the suspect in the assault on a Richmond Police officer this morning.
During patrol in Gilpin Court around 9:45 a.m., two Richmond Police officers observed a male acting suspiciously. As the officers approached, the man ran. The officers pursued him on foot to the 1100 block of St. John Street, where they caught up with him.
As the officers attempted to question and detain the man, he pulled out a gun and struck one of the officers in the head and face with it. The suspect then ran from the scene.
The officer was treated at a local hospital for minor injuries.
Coley is known to frequent the Gilpin Court area. Anyone with information about Coley’s whereabouts is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
