Arrest Made in Broad Rock Boulevard Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has arrested Domencio A. Singletary, 23, of the 700 block of East 18th Street, on charges related to a November homicide on Broad Rock Boulevard.

Singletary was arrested in December and charged with malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of the felony. He was indicted last week for first degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Shortly before 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, police were called to the 2800 block of Broad Rock Boulevard for a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they located Devon C. Falconer, 26, of the 5000 block of Snead Road, inside a vehicle who was suffering from gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Shortly afterward, a second victim, an adult male, arrived at a local hospital with a non-life threatening gunshot wound. Detectives have determined the two incidents are related.

Officer-Involved Shooting in St. John’s Wood Complex

The Richmond Police Department is currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday in the St. John’s Wood apartment complex.
At approximately 4:17 p.m., officers in the 600 block of Lambeth Road observed a group of individuals, at least one of which was armed with a handgun. Officers approached the group and the individuals ran.  The armed individual, a juvenile male, brandished a handgun at the officers. In response, two officers fired their service weapons. The offender was stuck and injured. The officers rendered aid to the offender as an ambulance was called. The juvenile was then transported to a local hospital with an injury that was not considered life threatening. The officers were not injured. A firearm was recovered at the scene. The injured juvenile was served with an outstanding detention order. The investigation continues and further charges are being considered by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
The Third Precinct officers who fired their service weapons, Officer Glenn Gohlke and Officer Dustin Holmes, have been placed on administrative leave, as is standard after all officer-involved shooting incidents.

Cold Case Tuesday: Police Still Seeking Information Related to Carytown Homicide

The Richmond Police Department is still seeking information related to the homicide of Michael D. Dobbs who was found dead in Carytown about 12 years ago.

At approximately 2:38 a.m. on Jan. 5, police were dispatched to the intersection of Ellwood Avenue and North Auburn Street for calls of random gunfire and a person shot. When officers arrived, they found Dobbs lying on the sidewalk of North Auburn Street suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police were told at 1:30 a.m., Dobbs left a friend’s house on North Boulevard. It was reported around this time, a white male, believed to be Dobbs, was attacked by two black males within the 3100 block of Ellwood Avenue. Moments later, a gunshot was heard. Upon further investigation, the incident appeared to be a random street robbery. Police do not believe Dobbs or his assailants lived in the area.

A recent graduate of Bridgewater College with a new job, Dobbs was loved by his family and friends. His family wants justice and closure for the loss of their loved one. The family has offered an additional reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the persons responsible for this terrible crime.

Suspect Sought in Theft from Carytown Restaurant

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the individual in the photo who is suspected of theft from a restaurant in the city’s Carytown neighborhood.
At approximately 10:25 p.m.., on Saturday, Jan. 21, it was reported an adult male took a purse from a business in the 2900 block of West Cary Street. The victim stated that a customer inside the restaurant stole her purse after she walked away from the table and the suspect walked out of the restaurant.
The suspect is described as a black male with dark hair and a full beard. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a dark-colored collared T-shirt and a light-colored baseball hat.

Driver Identified in Single Vehicle Traffic Fatality

The Richmond Police Department’s Crash Team investigators have identified the male driver killed in a single vehicle fatality last night as Robert L. Munford, III, 37, of the 300 block of East 17th Street.

At approximately 10:34 p.m., Munford was operating a vehicle eastbound in the 2500 block of Magnolia Street when the vehicle left the roadway to the right and struck a pole and a tree.  Munford was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators with the RPD Crash Team responded to the scene and conducted the investigation, which continues.

Arrest Made in Larne Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department, with the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force, made two arrests yesterday related to the homicide on Larne Avenue earlier this month.

Detectives and marshals arrested Barry M. Dixon, 28, of the 3700 block of Peyton Avenue in Richmond and Christopher E. Lassenberry, 29, of the 700 block of Chinaberry Drive, Chesterfield and charged them in connection with the homicide. Their photos are attached.

At approximately 12:39 a.m. on Thursday, January 18, police responded to the 200 block of Larne Avenue for a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and found Thomas E. Bradley, 24, of the 1300 block of Courthouse Road, Chesterfield, with an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

Suspect Sought in Assault During Commercial Burglary

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the suspect in the photo who assaulted an employee during a robbery earlier this month.

At approximately 5:42 p.m. on January 8, officers were called to the Family Dollar in the 1200 block of North 25th Street for the report of an assault and robbery.

The male in the photo and video attempted to leave the store with a bag of cigarettes he had not purchased. When he was confronted by an employee, the suspect assaulted the employee before leaving the store with the cigarettes. He fled on foot in an unknown direction.

Missing Alabama Woman Found in Boston


January 25, 2018
A missing Alabama woman, Sharmika L. Doyle, who was last seen two weeks ago in Richmond was located in Boston yesterday. Her photo is attached.
Doyle, 34, was reported missing on Wednesday, Jan. 10 and was last seen at the Greyhound Bus Station, located at 2910 N Boulevard, waiting to board a bus to New York. According to Greyhound, she did not arrive in New York.
Sometime yesterday, Doyle was located by Boston transit police. She is safe and sound and will soon be with family.

Missing Alabama Woman Last Seen in Richmond

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help in locating a missing Alabama woman, Sharmika L. Doyle, who was last seen two weeks ago in Richmond. Her photo is attached.

Doyle, 34, was last seen on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at the Greyhound Bus Station, located at 2910 N Boulevard, waiting to board a bus to New York. According to Greyhound, she did not arrive in New York. She is described as a black woman with a medium complexion, brown hair and eyes, approximately 5’1” tall and 130 pounds.

Doyle is eight months pregnant and suffers from several medical conditions and may be without her medication.

Victim Identified in Hioaks Neighborhood Death Investigation

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in this weekend’s death investigation in the Hioaks neighborhood as Aaron L. Cosby, 25, of the 1300 block of Coalter Street.

At around 9:16 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20, officers received a call for a person down in the 300 block of Grey Birch Drive. When police arrived, they located Cosby who was found dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Police are in the early stages of the investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available

Victim Identified in Gordon Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim of Thursday’s homicide in the city’s Oak Grove neighborhood as Randy L. Jones, 61, of the 1800 block of Gordon Avenue.

At approximately 4:09 p.m., on Thursday, Jan. 18, police received a call regarding a male down inside a residence in the 1800 block of Gordon Avenue. The caller stated he was checking on the welfare of the victim. When police arrived, they located Jones inside the home suffering from an apparent gunshot. He was pronounced dead at the scene

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Pedestrian Struck on South 14th Street

January 22, 2018

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a crash in which a pedestrian was struck Friday morning in the city’s east end.

At approximately 8:54 a.m., a pedestrian attempting to cross South 14th Street was struck by a vehicle turning north onto 14th Street from East Cary Street. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Officers responding to the crash interviewed the driver, who remained at the scene, and took statements from other witnesses. The Special Operations Division-Crash Team was notified and responded and is currently investigating the Crash.

No charges are expected at this time, pending the final outcome of the investigation.

Victim Identified in Swansboro West Homicide

The Richmond Police Department is investigating a fatal shooting that occurred earlier this week on Larne Avenue in the city’s Swansboro West neighborhood.

At approximately 12:39 a.m., Thursday, January 18, RPD officers were called to a residence in the 200 block of Larne Avenue for a report of a shooting. When they arrived, they found Thomas E. Bradley, III, 24, of the 1600 block of Stone River Road, North Chesterfield, lying on the floor. He had been shot.
Bradley was transported to a local hospital where he died that afternoon.

Suspect Indicted in Stockton Street Homicide and Officer Involved Shooting

A Richmond man has been indicted on multiple felony charges in connection with the Dec. 14 homicide of
 Antoine L. Smith Jr., 24, of the 3200 block of Broad Rock Boulevard and the officer involved shooting that occurred on 4th Avenue the same day.

James E. Williams Jr., 18, of the 1100 block of Sumpter Street was indicted by a grand jury last week on the following charges in relation to the Stockton Street homicide:
·         first-degree murder
·         malicious wounding
·         possession of a firearm of a convicted felon
·         use of a firearm in the commission of a felony (x2)
Williams Jr. was indicted by a grand jury for the following charges in relation to the officer involved shooting that occurred on Dec. 14:
·         attempted capital murder of a law enforcement officer
·         use of a firearm in the commission of a felony
·         convicted felon possession of a firearm
Williams Jr. is currently in custody on murder charges that occurred in Chesterfield County. A booking photo of Williams Jr. from Chesterfield County is attached. 
At approximately 5:01 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 14, officers responded to the 3200 block of Stockton Street for the report of a person shot. When police arrived, they located Antoine Smith Jr.suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers also located an adult female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

At approximately 8:27 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 14, an RPD Officer Travis Dooley spotted a vehicle matching the description of one that was seen at a shooting that had occurred minutes earlier in Gilpin Court. Officer Dooley attempted to stop the vehicle but it sped away. A short pursuit ensued.
At approximately 8:29 a.m., the vehicle was forced to stop in 3300 block of 4th Avenue when the roadway ended at a wooded area. Williams Jr. exited the vehicle and fired multiple shots from an assault-style weapon at officer Dooley, striking his cruiser. Officer Dooley returned fire, striking Williams Jr. A second occupant exited the vehicle and fled into the wooded area.

Suspect Sought in Mosby Neighborhood Homicide

The Richmond Police Department is still asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect in last week’s homicide in the city’s Mosby neighborhood.
Devrick Raquan Gail, 29 years of age, of Richmond is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Davon R. Daniels that occurred on Tuesday, Jan. 2 in the 1300 block of Coalter Street.

“We would like to thank those who have already provided information,” said Captain James Laino. “This is a dangerous individual who is still out on the streets and we’re asking for the public’s continuing help in locating Gail.”

Gail – also known as “Quan” – is described a black male, 5’ 06” tall, 180 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a dark complexion. He has a tattooed portrait of Jesus on his left shoulder in addition to multiple tattoos on his arms and face. Gail is known to frequent the area where the fatal shooting took place.

Anyone who spots Gail or knows of his whereabouts should call 911 immediately.

Do not approach him or make your presence known to him. He should be considered armed and dangerous.

Suspects Sought in Home Invasion

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the two males in the attached photos who are the suspects in a home invasion and robbery earlier this month.

At approximately 11:50 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 1, a male reported the two unknown males in the photos and video knocked on his door in the 1700 block of North 24th Street and, when opened, brandished a handgun and forced their way into the residence.

The suspects robbed the victim of cash and electronics before leaving the residence in an unknown direction of travel. There were no injuries.

The first suspect is described as approximately 6’3” tall, 200 pounds and in his early 30’s. The second suspect is described as approximately 5’ 9” tall, 170 pounds and in his late 20’s.

Woodland Heights/Swansboro Vehicle Break-ins

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate the persons who broke into several vehicles overnight in the Woodland Heights and Swansboro sections of the city.
At approximately 6:41 a.m., RPD officers were alerted to damage to several vehicles parked on the street in the 2500 and 2600 blocks of Semmes Avenue. Other damaged vehicles were subsequently located in that general area. (See map.) Although many of the vehicles were rummaged through, it does not appear as if many items were taken.

“The damage is mostly broken windows, probably because they were iced over which made it impossible to see inside the vehicles,” said Sgt. William Travers. “We are asking residents to check their surveillance cameras for video taken overnight which could be helpful to our investigation.”

So far, 22 damaged vehicles have been located.

Arrest Made in July 2017 North Avenue Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has made an arrest in the stabbing death last July of Vivian L. Robinson, 50, of the 4300 block of North Avenue.  After a thorough investigation and consulting with the Commonwealth’s Attorney, the department is now classifying this death investigation as a homicide.
            
John L. Reid Jr., 61, of the 100 block of Elsing Street, Highland Springs, was arrested last week and charged with second-degree murder and malicious wounding (x2). His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 11:53 p.m., on July 22, 2017, officers were called to a residence in the 3300 block of North Avenue for the report of an argument and persons stabbed. Officers arrived and found four individuals who were involved in the incident, a male and three females. The three females had suffered from stab wounds. Two were transported to a local hospital with injuries that were not considered life threatening and Robinson was pronounced dead at the scene.

Victim Identified in Southside Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in this morning’s homicide in the Bellemeade neighborhood as Garry Harrison Jr., 28, of the 2200 block of Ruffin Road.

Shortly after midnight on Sunday, Jan. 7, police received a call for a person shot at the intersection of Columbia Avenue and Jefferson Davis Highway. When officers responded to the area they located a black Nissan sedan in the 2400 block of Warwick Ave with two shooting victims inside. The adult male, Harrison, was pronounced at the scene. The second victim, an adult female, was transported to a local hospital where she is being treated for life threatening injuries.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in this morning’s death investigation in Hillside Court as Javon I. Patron, 23, of the 2500 block of Alexander Avenue.

At around 1 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6, officers received a call for a shooting in the 1600 block of Rosecrest Avenue. When police arrived, they located Patron who had been shot in the rear of a dwelling. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Within the same block, a second victim, an adult male, was found suffering from a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he was treated for his injuries.

Suspect Sought in Mosby Neighborhood Homicide

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help to locate a suspect in yesterday morning’s homicide in the city’s Mosby neighborhood.
RPD officers are looking for Devrick Raquan Gail, 29 years of age, of Richmond. Gail is wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Davon R. Daniels early yesterday morning in the 1300 block of Coalter Street.

At approximately 11:21 a.m., officers received a call for a person shot in the 1300 block of Coalter Street. When police arrived, they located Daniels suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was transported to a local hospital where he later died.

WHAT:                         Richmond Police 116th Basic Recruit Class Graduation

WHEN:                        10 a.m. Thursday, January 4, 2018

WHERE:                      Cheek Theater, Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, 200 N. Boulevard

BACKGROUND:          RPD Chief Alfred Durham and the Richmond Police Department are proud to welcome 29 new officers to the force and invite the public to their graduation and swearing-in ceremony tomorrow.

The class includes recruits from across the globe such as Ghana and Romania, and other states like California, Florida, New York, as well as many from right here in the Richmond metro area.

An extra week was added to the traditional 30 week training schedule to accommodate an expanded curriculum that includes community engagement experiences in public housing communities, city schools and homeless shelters. The recruits will also graduate as certified bicycle officers.

As newly sworn officers, they will begin eight weeks of field training this Saturday; each paired with an experienced officer.
