The Richmond Police Department is
currently investigating an officer-involved shooting that occurred Saturday in
the St. John’s Wood apartment complex.
At approximately 4:17 p.m., officers in the 600 block of
Lambeth Road observed a group of individuals, at least one of which was armed
with a handgun. Officers approached the group and the individuals ran.
The armed individual, a juvenile male, brandished a handgun at the officers. In
response, two officers fired their service weapons. The offender was stuck and
injured. The officers rendered aid to the offender as an ambulance was called.
The juvenile was then transported to a local hospital with an injury that was
not considered life threatening. The officers were not injured. A firearm was
recovered at the scene. The injured juvenile was served with an outstanding
detention order. The investigation continues and further charges are being
considered by the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office.
The Third Precinct officers who fired their service
weapons, Officer Glenn Gohlke and Officer Dustin Holmes, have been placed on
administrative leave, as is standard after all officer-involved shooting
incidents.
