Highland Park Triple Shooting

March 2, 2016

Richmond Police detectives are investigating a triple shooting that occurred yesterday afternoon in the Highland Park section of the city.

At approximately 4:06 p.m., yesterday, March 1, RPD officers were called to Anne Hardy Plaza Community Park in the 3300 block of 1st Avenue for a report of a shooting. They quickly located two men, each with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

Two minutes after the first call, another call was received that directed RPD officers to 2500 block of 3rd Avenue where they found another man with life-threatening gunshot wounds.

All three men were taken to a local hospital for treatment.

After interviewing several witnesses, RPD detectives quickly determined that all three men were wounded during an exchange of gunfire at the park. The motive appears to have been a domestic argument.

Two men have been arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. They are:
  • Rashad J. Haskins, 23, of the 3600 block of Missouri Avenue
  • Rashad L. D. Bugg, 24, of the 3400 block of Martin Avenue
As the investigation is in its early stages, RPD detectives are not prepared to say how these two men are related to the shooting. The man with life-threatening injuries remains hospitalized.

The park was full of people, including children, at the time of the shooting. Detectives would like to speak to as many of those witnesses as possible.
