Parents Charged with Death of Infant

Following a six month investigation, Richmond Police detectives have arrested the parents of a young child and charged them in connection with his death.

Sabrina A. Malick, 29, of the 7800 block of Wistar Village Drive, Henrico and Walter E.  Newton, 46, of the 4800 block of Caldwell Avenue, Richmond, have been charged with Second Degree Murder and Felony Child Neglect.

They were arrested Wednesday, March 9.

On September 12, 2015, RPD officers were called to the 1800 block of Jefferson Davis Highway for a report of an unresponsive infant in a recreational vehicle. The infant, Brendan Newton, less than one year old, residing in the 1800 block of Jefferson Davis Highway at the time, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Newton’s death will be recorded as the 41^st homicide of 2015.
