Victim Identified in South Richmond Homicide, Suspect Found

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in yesterday’s homicide as Jawanda F. Johnson, 26, of the 2200 block of Fairfield Avenue.

The suspect, Terrell D. Cook, was located this morning in a house in Christiansburg, Virginia by the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force and the Virginia State Police with the assistance of the Christiansburg Police Department and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office. Cook, 28, of the 1300 block of Overbrook Road, had suffered an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Yesterday at approximately 2:41 p.m., police were called to the 2200 block of Chalfont Drive for a report of a person shot. When officers arrived, they located Johnson suffering from a life-threatening gunshot wound. She was transported to a local hospital where she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.
