First Precinct officers and detectives from the Richmond Police Department have made an arrest in the armed robbery of a United States Postal Service letter carrier.
After
detectives developed a suspect from information provided by a witness, officers
assigned to a walking unit in the Creighton Court community observed the
suspect yesterday at approximately 5:30 p.m. in the 2000 block of Creighton
Road and detained him. The suspect, a juvenile male, confessed to the robbery
and was charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of a
felony.
The
U.S. Postal Inspection Service had offered a reward of up to a $5,000 for
information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect – and that
organization will make the determination on the reward outcome.
At
approximately 11:45 a.m., on Monday, August 20, a U.S.P.S. letter carrier was
delivering mail in the 3400 block of R Street in the Oakwood neighborhood when
the juvenile male approached the letter carrier, brandished a firearm and
robbed the letter carrier of cash. There were no injuries.
The
Department wishes to express gratitude to our media partners for broadcasting
suspect information and to the public for providing information that leads to
arrests.
