August 13, 2018

WHAT:                     Shop with a Cop

WHEN:                    Noon, Tuesday, Aug. 14 and 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15

WHERE:                  Forest Hill Target, 7101 Forest Hill Ave.

BACKGROUND:     In collaboration with the Metro Richmond YMCA’s Bright Beginnings program, “Shop with a Cop” pairs Richmond city youth with a Richmond Police officer in preparation for the upcoming school year.

“This program is fundamental to the Department’s efforts in bridging the gap and strengthening community relations,” said Capt. Daniel Minton. “Our officers love participating, the joy they see on a child’s face when they get new clothes for school and the opportunity to talk to them about the importance of an education brings it all together.”

Along with helping a child prepare for the upcoming school year, the annual event continues building the foundation of community trust and the youth.

Bright Beginnings is the largest outreach program, servicing over 2,000 children in Central Virginia.
