Dog, Suspect Sought in Shockoe Bottom Motor Vehicle Theft

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help locating a vehicle that was stolen in Shockoe Bottom yesterday morning. During the time of the incident, a toy poodle was inside the vehicle.

Sometime between 9:15 a.m. and 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, August 12, an unknown male stole a vehicle parked at the McDonald’s in the 1800 block of East Broad Street. The victim’s dog, a white toy poodle named “Skippy” was inside the vehicle at the time. The victims told police they went inside for approximately 15 minutes and had left the vehicle running.

The vehicle is described as a champagne colored 2017 Ford Escape. The vehicle has North Carolina tags and the license plate number is EDR9177. A photo of the make and model of the vehicle is attached.

The suspect is described as a black male who was wearing all dark clothing at the time of the incident.

“This couple is missing a member of their family,” said First Precinct Detective Calvin Layne, “We want to locate the suspect and the vehicle, but we want to make sure we return Skippy to his owners unharmed.”
