Arrest Made in Wallet, Pizza Robbery

A Richmond man has been arrested in connection with an armed robbery that took place last week in Union Hill.

Roderick D. Bugg, 28, of the 2100 block of Accommodation Street, was arrested yesterday evening and charged with robbery and use of a firearm in the commission of felony. His booking photo is attached.

Around 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, a male was walking in the 800 block of North 25^th Street with a pizza box when an unknown male approached him from behind and brandished a handgun. The victim placed the pizza box on the ground as the suspect pulled the victim’s wallet out of a pocket.

A second suspect approached the scene and took the pizza box, walked away and pulled a slice of pizza from the box and started eating it. A third suspect also walked up to the scene at this time.

All three suspects walked from the scene. There were no injuries.

The initial suspect is believed to have gotten on a red mountain bike and taken the victim’s wallet to a nearby convenience store, Ocean Grocery, located at 2438 Venable Street, where he attempted to use a debit card at an ATM.

Suspect Sought in Attempted Robbery of Taxi Driver

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the man in the attached photo, who is a suspect in an attempted armed robbery of a taxi cab driver.

Shortly before 8 a.m. this morning, the taxi cab driver picked up a man in the 2900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue. He drove the man to the 1300 block of Nelson Street, where the man displayed a silver and gray handgun and began to struggle with the driver. The driver was not injured during the incident. The suspect fled on foot into the Wynwood Apartments.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’8”- 5’10” tall, weighing approximately 175 pounds. He wore a Redskins sweatshirt, light blue pants or jeans and a stocking hat.

Suspects Sought in Wallet, Pizza Robbery

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify suspects who robbed an individual of a wallet and pizza last week.

Around 10:25 p.m. on Tuesday, October 18, a male was walking in the 800 block of North 25^th Street with a pizza box when an unknown male approached him from behind and brandished a handgun. The victim placed the pizza box on the ground as the suspect pulled the victim’s wallet out of a pocket.

Arrests Made in North 29th Street Homicide

Richmond Police have arrested two males in connection to a homicide which occurred early this year in the city’s east end.

Keon C. Anderson, 18, of the 1100 block of St. Paul Street, and David D. Jones, 20, of the 2400 block of Richdale Road, have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder. Anderson has also been charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Recent mugshots are attached.

At approximately 10:53 p.m. on Thursday, March 24, officers were called to the 1800 block of North 29^th Street for a report of a shooting. Inside a residence near the intersection of North 29^th and Y Streets they found a woman who had been shot.

The victim, Kemberly A. M. Williams, 49, of the 1800 block of North 29^th Street, was transported to a local hospital where she was pronounced dead at 11:42 p.m.

“This shooting took the life of an innocent woman. Through months of investigating, detectives were able to identify two of the individuals involved in this incident,” said Major Crimes Lt. Cynthia Hayes. “We are continuing to gather information and reaching out to anyone who may have witnessed or have information about what occurred that night.”

Additional Assistance Sought in Marshall Street Shooting

Richmond Police detectives are seeking additional information about a shooting that took place last Saturday in the Carver neighborhood.

Around 2:10 a.m. on October 22, officers responded to the 1200 block of W. Marshall Street for a report of a person shot. They quickly located the adult male victim, who was lying on the ground suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment, and his condition has since been upgraded to non-life-threatening.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5’7” to 5’9” tall, weighing 120-130 pounds. He wore a sweatshirt and black pants at the time of the incident.

“We’re asking anyone who was in the area at the time of this shooting and may have seen or heard something, even if they don’t feel like it’s significant, to give us a call,” said Detective Sergeant Claude Picard with the Major Crimes Division. “Something that might seem unimportant could be the missing piece detectives need to make an arrest in this case.”

Information Sought for Home Invasion Investigation

Richmond Police detectives are investigating a home invasion that occurred this morning.

At approximately 6:25 a.m., a resident of a home in the 4200 block of Grove Avenue heard glass break. As the resident checked the home – an unknown male was discovered inside. When encountering each other the suspect fired shots at the resident. The resident was able to get away and call police. The suspect, described as a black male with dark jeans and dark-colored hooded sweatshirt, fled the home. There were no injuries.

Detectives believe the initial motive was burglary.

The area is popular with joggers and a well-travelled corridor in the morning hours and detectives ask anyone who saw suspicious activity or this suspect to call detectives with the information. Any homeowner or business owner with surveillance equipment in the area is also asked to call detectives so the video from this morning can be reviewed.

After Several Shockoe Valley Market Robberies, Suspect Arrested, Suspects Sought

The Richmond Police Department has made an arrest and is searching for a suspect in a recent robbery at the Shockoe Valley Market – while detectives ask again for information about another robbery suspect at the same location.

Thursday at approximately 2: 40 p.m., two suspects entered the convenience store, located at 311 N. 18^th St., brandished a knife at an employee and robbed the store of cash, cigarettes and cigars. The suspects fled on foot eastbound on East Marshall Street.

There were no injuries.

Detectives have arrested a juvenile male for this incident and are seeking Dorian J. Hamilton, 20, of the 1300 block of Piney Ridge Court. His photo is attached.

Detectives are still investigating a robbery at the same location on Wednesday and ask again for the public’s assistance in identifying the suspect. The suspect in the second photo used a handgun to rob the store.

Arrest Made in Lawson Street Homicide

A Richmond man is facing two felonies in connection with a homicide that occurred Saturday morning in the Swansboro West neighborhood.

Tracey S. Hughes, 54, of the 3300 block of Lawson Street, was taken into custody Saturday. He has been charged with possession of a sawed-off shotgun and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Additional charges are expected. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 6:38 a.m. on October 22, officers were called to the 3300 block of Lawson Street for a report of a person down. The victim – Naquan R. Bentley, 35, of the 5800 block of Westover Village Drive –was located outside. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives do not believe the incident to be a random act. The case remains under investigation.

Victim of Lawson Street Homicide Identified

Richmond Police detectives have identified Naquan R. Bentley, 35, of the 5800 block of Westover Village Drive, as the victim of a homicide that occurred this morning in the Swansboro West neighborhood.

At approximately 6:38 a.m., officers were called to the 3300 block of Lawson Street for a report of a person down. Upon arrival, they located the victim outside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine the cause and manner of death.

Detectives are actively working all available leads in the case, and they do not believe the incident to be a random act.

This free event will address general safety tips for city residents as well as begin a dialogue about Autism Spectrum Disorder and other development disabilities in an effort to increase knowledge about them for law enforcement and the community. 

Forest Hill Avenue Homicide Victim Identified

Richmond Police detectives have identified the victim of a homicide that occurred last night on the city’s south side as Tevon F. Dickerson, 24, of the 200 block of Plazaview Road.

At approximately 8:11 p.m., officers responded to the 5100 block of Forest Hill Avenue for a report of random gunfire. They searched the area and did not locate a victim.

Minutes later, police received a call advising there was a person down near the intersection of Hioaks and Jahnke roads. Officers quickly located Dickerson, who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound, in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives believe the two scenes are related and that the victim was driven to the second location near Chippenham Hospital in an attempt to seek medical attention. They are canvassing the area in order to gather additional information and actively pursuing all available leads in the case.

Suspect Sought in Shockoe Valley Market Robbery

The Richmond Police Department is asking for the public’s help to identify the man in the photos who is a suspect in a robbery at the Shockoe Valley Market.

Yesterday at approximately 1: 13 p.m. the suspect walked into the convenience store, located at 311 N. 18^th St., brandished a firearm and robbed a store employee of cash and a box of cigars.

He fled on foot eastbound on East Marshall Street. There were no injuries.

The suspect is described as a black male with a goatee, approximately six feet tall and weighing approximately 160 pounds. He wore a grey hooded sweatshirt, jeans and black boots.

RPD, DEA Join Forces for Drug Take-Back Initiative

The Richmond Police Department, with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, will host a Drug Take-Back initiative from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 22 at the Arthur Ashe Athletic Center, 3017 N Boulevard and Southside Community Center, 4100 Hull St.

Expired and unused prescription medications are a public safety issue that can lead to accidental poisoning, overdose, abuse and illegal sales. These medications cannot be turned in to your local pharmacy. Residents also are asked not to flush the prescriptions into the sewer system for environmental reasons.

Last April, Americans turned in 447 tons (over 893,000 pounds) of prescription drugs at almost 5,400 sites operated by the DEA and more than 4,200 of its state and local law enforcement partners.  Overall, in its 11 previous Take Back events, DEA and its partners have taken in over 6.4 million pounds—about 3,200 tons—of pills. 

“This is an excellent opportunity to dispose of unused or expired medications in a proper way,” said Captain Michael Zohab of the Department’s Special Investigations Division. “These medications should not be kept around the house. Bringing them to the Drug Take-Back event could save a life.”

All prescription medications collected will be incinerated according to federal and state environmental guidelines. Richmond Police asks that you do not bring syringes or illegal narcotics for disposal to the collection sites. Medical waste or bulk commercial medications will also not be accepted. Those disposing of medications may remain anonymous.

Hioaks Road Death Investigation

Richmond Police detectives are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred tonight on the city’s south side.

At approximately 8:11 p.m., officers responded to the 5100 block of Forest Hill Avenue for a report of random gunfire. They searched the area and did not locate a victim.

Man Wanted in Chamberlayne Avenue Homicide

Richmond Police detectives have arrested one man in connection with an August homicide that took place in the Ginter Park neighborhood and are asking for the public’s help to locate a second suspect.

Bernardo L. Jones Sr, 20, of Richmond, is wanted on charges of conspiracy to commit murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Jones is described as a black male, 6’ tall, weighing approximately 190 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. A recent photo is attached.

He should be considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone who sees him is asked to call police immediately.

In September, Demontrell C. Hurdle, 30, of the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue, was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

Around midnight on August 21, officers were called to the 3900 block of Chamberlayne Avenue for a report of a person down. They arrived to find Desmond L. Holmes, 32, of the 7900 block of Tamarind Place in Henrico County, down and unresponsive in the parking lot of an apartment building. Holmes had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Suspect Sought in Credit Card Fraud

Richmond Police detectives need the public’s help to identify the male suspect in the attached photos who is suspected of credit card fraud.

During several instances last month, the man in the photos used credit card numbers fraudulently in restaurants, convenience stores and clothing stores in Richmond’s East End and Shockoe Bottom neighborhood and in the surrounding counties. Detectives believe, since the victim reported he still had the credit card in his possession, that the suspect made a duplicate card.

Victim Identified in Walmsley Boulevard Homicide

Richmond Police Department detectives have identified the victim of a homicide that occurred early yesterday morning on the city's south side.

Shortly after 8 a.m. yesterday, police were called to the Dollar General store at 3903 Walmsley Blvd. for a person down. When police arrived, they found an adult male in a vehicle suffering from an apparent gunshot wound.

The victim, Ronald A. Holder, 48, of Henrico, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death. Police are still investigating.

Victim Identified in Blue Ridge Avenue Homicide

Richmond Police Detectives have identified the victim in last night’s homicide as Marc E. Johnson, 48, of the 5600 block of Simpson Avenue.

At approximately 11:04 p.m., officers were called to the 5300 block of Blue Ridge Avenue for the report of random gunfire.

Officers arrived and found Johnson on the sidewalk. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Blue Ridge Avenue Death Investigation

Last night at approximately 11:04 p.m., officers were called to the 5300 block of Blue Ridge Avenue in the Fulton neighborhood for the report of random gunfire.

Officers arrived and found an adult male on a sidewalk who was suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. He was unresponsive and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Detectives are in the early stages of investigating this shooting death and have initially categorized this incident as a death investigation.

Identity of Suspect Sought for Inappropriate Touching of a Female

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify a man wanted for the inappropriate touching of a female in August.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., on August 18, a female employee of Restaurante y Taqueria Panchito, located at 6531 Midlothian Turnpike, reported the male in the photos grabbed her buttocks while the suspect and the employee were near the exit doors of the establishment. The suspect then ran to an orange and white U-Haul pick-up truck and drove away.

Detectives had initially asked patrol officers to help identify the individual but now have extended their request for assistance to the public.

The suspect is a black male, approximately six feet tall and weighing approximately 190 pounds. He wore a white tank top and black athletic shorts that had white stripes on the sides.

Suspect Sought in Semmes Avenue Robbery

Richmond Police detectives are asking for the public’s help to identify the woman in the attached photo who is a suspect in a robbery that occurred early this morning.

Shortly before 1 a.m., police responded to the Fas Mart at 2107 Semmes Ave. for a report of a commercial robbery. The suspect approached the store clerk with her hand, covered in a scarf, demanding money. When the clerk realized the suspect did not have a weapon, she pushed the suspect’s hand away and called police. The suspect then took several packs of cigarettes and fled Eastbound on foot toward Cowardin Avenue.

The suspect is described as a black female with short dark hair, approximately 40-50 years old, 5’6” tall, and weighing 145-150 pounds.  At the time of the incident, she wore a black scarf, black jacket, blue jeans, and tan colored boots.

Man Arrested in Southwood Parkway Shooting

A Richmond man was arrested yesterday in connection with a shooting that took place last month in the Southwood neighborhood.

Hugo J. Palma Iraheta, 22, of Richmond, is charged with attempted murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. His booking photo is attached. 

Shortly before 1 a.m. on September 18, officers responded to the 4600 block of Southwood Parkway for a report of a person shot. Victim Identified in Gilpin Court Homicide

The Richmond Police Department has identified the victim in Sunday’s homicide as Carmella D. Winston, 52, of the 100 block of North Ivy Avenue, Henrico.

Yesterday at approximately 2:54 p.m., officers were called to the 00 hundred block of East Hill Street for the report of a person shot.

Officers arrived and found an adult female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. She was transported to VCU Medical Center where she died.

The Medical Examiner will determine cause and manner of death.

Detectives believe the victim was a passenger in a parked vehicle near the intersection of St. James and East Hill streets when she was shot.

"A woman riding in a car on a bright Sunday afternoon was struck down by what appears to be random gunfire," said Major Crimes Captain James Laino. "We need anyone with information about this tragic incident to come forward."
