Arrest Made in Lawson Street Homicide

A Richmond man is facing two felonies in connection with a homicide that occurred Saturday morning in the Swansboro West neighborhood.

Tracey S. Hughes, 54, of the 3300 block of Lawson Street, was taken into custody Saturday. He has been charged with possession of a sawed-off shotgun and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Additional charges are expected. His booking photo is attached.

At approximately 6:38 a.m. on October 22, officers were called to the 3300 block of Lawson Street for a report of a person down. The victim – Naquan R. Bentley, 35, of the 5800 block of Westover Village Drive –was located outside. He had suffered an apparent gunshot wound and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives do not believe the incident to be a random act. The case remains under investigation.
